Job Summary:

We currently have a need for a Health Educator (SNAP-Ed) to fulfill the requirements of a grant funded nutrition education program.

Maine’s SNAP-Ed (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education) at Healthy Northern Kennebec provides SNAP-Ed to residents in the Greater Waterville area. The program strives to educate Maine SNAP recipients on low cost, healthy eating and active lifestyles.

HNK provides SNAP-Ed nutrition education programs such as “Pick A Better Snack” and “Cooking Matters” to schools, child care centers and community organizations.

The goal of SNAP-Ed is to improve the likelihood that persons eligible for SNAP will make healthy choices within a limited budget and choose active lifestyles consistent with the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans and MyPlate.

Job Description:

This position is responsible for assisting the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) SNAP-Ed Coordinator in implementation of the work plan by delivering nutrition education programs to low income families and individuals in the Healthy Northern Kennebec service area. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

Work with SNAP-Ed Program Coordinator to schedule, deliver and report on nutrition and physical activity programs to a variety of age groups that fulfill the goals of the work plan. 
Partner with community organizations, work-sites, schools, child care sites and other community organizations to provide nutrition and physical activity information and programs to SNAP eligible households. 
Serve as a resource to the community seeking nutrition health information. Serve as a nutrition resource at community events and programs. 

The ideal candidate will have:

Bachelor’s degree, Nutrition Education or related field, preferred 
1 year or more SNAP Ed or related experience, preferred 
Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), preferred 
Group Instructional Skills 
Proficiency in a suite of Microsoft Office applications
