Overview

University of Kentucky Police Sergeants are responsible for providing the University community with a safe and secure environment in which to work, live and learn. The department is service oriented and specializes in meeting the needs of the campus’ diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

The major job responsibilities of the University of Kentucky Police Sergeant include supervision and management; patrol and investigations; public relations and service; and professional development and training.

Specific duties include supervising a patrol shift, reviewing and approving reports, developing Officers, patrolling on foot, bike, and mobile patrol, enforcing the law, investigating crimes, building community relations, preparing and presenting testimony in court, providing security and traffic control for special University events, and completing University and law enforcement related reports.

Police Sergeants must be able to work overtime especially in high volume seasons (university move in, football, basketball, etc.), change shifts, work special duty events, and attend meetings.

Police Sergeants shall positively interact, enhance relations, and represent the University with local law enforcement and community partners.
