Come join our Pre-award Team as a Lead Grant Proposal Specialist and supervise a team of Grant Proposals Specialists, providing the grant and budget expertise behind a University of Kentucky College of Medicine Research Faculty’s next big discovery! Accounting for the majority of UK’s National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding, the UK College of Medicine’s is the place to be for innovative, cutting-edge research in an extensive range of areas—from Cancer Research to Cardiovascular and Alzheimer’s Disease to COVID-19 and a lot in between. As part of the College of Medicine, our office, Sponsored Research Administrative Services (SRAS), plays an important part in supporting this great research from the administrative side.

Each Lead Grant Proposal Specialist will supervise a team of Grant Proposal Specialists who support faculty investigators and department business staff in the preparation and submission of grant proposals, ensuring compliance with policy requirements of external sponsors as well as UK policies and procedures related to grants, with a focus on customer service. Supervisory tasks will include support of the hiring process, on-boarding, training, quality control, and regular performance evaluations. These individuals will also have their own department/center assignments and will be responsible for working with faculty on the administrative and budgetary aspects of their research proposals, including guideline review, budget development, eIAF initiation, and proposal package preparation. The main goals are to ensure a high-level of compliance with all applicable policies and regulations, while helping to ensure that each proposal passes the muster of a sponsor’s administrative and budgetary requirements.

This position reports to the Pre-Award Manager of the SRAS.

The minimum requirements of the position are a Master’s degree and 5 years of related experience. However, per UK’s equivalency policy, experience can substitute for education. For this position, a Master’s degree is not required if you have additional related experience to substitute for that time. Please see the equivalency link for more specific information and examples.
