Job Summary:
The Decontamination Specialist is responsible for the disassembly, cleaning, and decontamination of all reusable medical supplies, surgical instrumentation, case carts, and patient care equipment from all areas of the Medical Center. The responsibility includes the appropriate handling and cleaning of delicate and expensive OR devices. The ideal candidate consistently maintains infection control and safety standards. Decontamination Specialists must constantly adjust workflow to meet changing needs of the Operating Room and other patient care areas; ability to work in a dynamic environment is a must.

The ideal candidate will have:
High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) preferred.
Up to 1 year of experience preferred.
Basic computer skills preferred.

Job Description:

Utilizes cleaning equipment effectively per manufacturer’s instructions for use.

Collaborates with interdepartmental staff to prioritize and adjust workflow. Expedites processing to meet daily schedule and urgent surgery requirements for instrumentation.

Maintains current processing and handling knowledge of complex, fragile, expensive assets such as surgical instrumentation and patient care equipment.

Follows manufacturer’s instructions for use and department procedures to achieve safe and effective cleaning and decontamination of surgical instrumentation and patient care equipment.
